Chesterfield is a cigarette brand manufactured by Philip Morris International since 1873. These cigarettes are named for the Chesterfield County in the state of Virginia. “Chester” was produced since 1873 by Drummond Tobacco. After 1898 the company was acquired by American Tobacco, and in 1911 after the collapse of the company the Chesterfield brand became the property of Liggett & Myers. At this time the brand has undergone strong changes – recipe mix, packaging, advertising concept were changed. Due to these steps the sales of Chesterfield cigarettes increased, and the brand became the most popular in America for a long time.

But the peak of prosperity of the Chesterfield brand is considered mid-twentieth century, when the ad campaigns were attended by such celebrities as James Dime, Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, the legendary football coach Paul Bryant and many others. For example, in 1948, the future U.S. president Ronald Reagan participated in Chesterfield cigarette advertising. The brand has been a sponsor for many television programs, baseball competitions.

In April 2008, the traditional design of the Chesterfield pack has undergone several changes: the three sides of the pack contain illustrations – narration of the brand; lateral side of the pack indicates belonging to a certain flavors by its color. The names of cigarettes have been changed as well: Chesterfield Filter Cigarettes were changed to Chesterfield Classic Red; Chesterfield Lights Cigarettes are now called Chesterfield Classic Blue; in turn, Chesterfield Ultra Lights Cigarettes changed its name to Chesterfield Classic Bronze.

The concept of the campaign is built on the idea how not to miss the best moments of pleasure in the bustling modern world. The time is required in order to truly realize and appreciate moments of genuine fun. This idea is reflected in the new simple phrase: “Enjoy leisurely” and “Chesterfield – fun, which is worthy of pause”.

“The main elements of the pack are presented in a more relevant interpretation through an updated form, color gradations, which displays the different options for taste and print method”, told the company. – The most intriguing part of the new image is an illustration, being on 3 sides of the pack. This is peculiar brand narrative that begins with a pack of Chesterfield.
